BMW Sauber started the 2006 season with its own team, having bought Swiss team Sauber Petronas. Previously, BMW worked closely with Williams, which has provided engines, such as the BMW-Williams team ten victories achieved within five years. After buying the Sauber Petronas team attracts new in itself Nick Heidfeld of Williams and Jacques Villeneuve reserves the contract, which has a Sauber. Mario Theissen remains responsible for sport competitions in the BMW, the team has invested to form highly qualified team of engineers led by Willy Rampf. Rampf worked at BMW South Africa and, when invited to the first race of Peter Sauber in Formula 1 in 1993, he seized the opportunity and joined. In 1997 he returned to BMW, to guide the preparations around the rally "Paris-Dakar". Ten years later he was back in Sauber as Technical Director and BMW bought the team when he took the job in preparing the car for the new season.

2008 season for Team BMW Sauber started more than good and Kubica gradually emerged as a leader over Heidfeld. In the middle of the year the team decided to focus on the car for 2009. Meanwhile Kubica made a very strong season and achieved the first victory for BMW in Montreal. Robert subsequently lost momentum and contender for the title, was fourth with the same number of points with Kimi Raikkonen. Nick Heidfeld in turn had a lot of problems during the season, but made enough to allow his team to rank third among designers. Once threw a lot of time and money in its development, the team started the 2009 season hoping its pilots, are constantly on the podium.
After an extremely successful 2008 season, all expecting BMW-Sauber to be fast from the first race. However, the model proved disastrous. Heidfeld managed to take second place in the terminated Grand Prix of Malaysia, but it did not help much. Kubica had a long time outside the points until the Grand Prix of Turkey. But then it was too late to convince bosses in Munich not to take drastic measures

The team from Hinvil scored consecutive year of growth. In 2011, the team of Peter Sauber scored 24 points more and one place higher in the standings than the previous year. The result could have been better if the points earned by Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Prez Australia were respected. Despite strong statistics, Sauber began to lag behind the middle of the season of his chief rival Force India. It starts getting tacky at the end of the year, when thanks to the points earned in the last race, the Swiss team managed to come to Toro Rosso duo in seventh position. Sauber next season will try to make another step forward and chasing sixth place. Perez and Kobayashi proved good tandem, contrary to most expectations, and are ready to attack the track in the new season.
