Led by former champion John Booth Manor sport began operation in 1990. During this time they have 171 victories and 19 titles, most of them in the European Formula 3 team in pilots passed by Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton. Manor has two plants in the UK. One is close to Sheffield and the other in Bisestar. Along with technical genius Nick Uirt, the team is known for its pursuit of high technology. At the end of 2009 and was officially announced transaction between Manor and Virgin Richrd Sir Branson. The team was renamed Virgin Racing and pilots were identified Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi. Virgin will use Cosworth engines in their debut season.

Many were great expectations for the new team Virgin. Nick Uirt promised revolution in the design of cars, once boasted that VR-01 has not spent one minute in the wind tunnel. Unfortunately, things did not work as expected Briton. Already in the first race came out general defect in the cars of Virgin - tanks can not hold enough fuel to allow the pilots to finish. The problem was doing well, but the team collapsed its image among critics of professionals in the paddock. At the beginning of 2011 Russian supercar manufacturer Marusya buy part of the team and ensure its existence until 2014. However, Virgin can guarantee the future, if he can win a few points this season
