Toro Rosso is owned by Austrian energy drink company Red Bull. Former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger is involved in the championship, as head of the team in season 2006. The team is formed by what remains of the former Minardi team. As property Giancarlo Minardi and then Paul Stoddart, Minardi participated in Formula 1 21 years, and thus did not reach the level to be sbosoben to fight for victories and titles.
Before the Grand Prix of Belgium in 2005 Red Bull announced that it would buy the Minardi team and actually started working with him on 1 November of the same year. For sports director Franz Tost is attracted by BMW, and in the meantime it is clear that the team remains based in Italy and he will compete independently of Team Red Bull Racing.
Pilots are attracted American Scott Speed and former F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi, while Neil Yani assumes the role of test driver. In his first season the team performs quite solid at the end of the season even presents stronger than Red Bull. The lack of experience of the two pilots leads to some unpleasant mistakes that cost the team a lot, but Liuzzi and Speed are also performing well. In Australia Speed is about to take the first point for Toro Rosso, but lost his eighth position because it is ahead of David Coulthard under yellow flags. The first point, however, came in the race for the Grand Prix of the United States, where Liuzzi finishes in eighth place. This point was enough to send the team eighth in the constructors' championship at the end of the season.
2007 is a new step forward for the team Toro Rosso, who earns 9 points in the season and thus secures seventh place overall in the drivers. The team started the year with Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed, but after the Grand Prix of Europe American who until now no one point in its assets, was released and replaced by young German Sebastian Vettel. For seven races for Toro Rosso Vettel takes you six points, five of them with impressive fourth place in the race for the Grand Prix of China. Again in China Liuzzi also achieved his best ranking of the season with sixth place taken three points which ends this year. In place of the new season Liuzzi will be occupied by Sebastien Bourdais
The young Vettel remained in the Toro Rosso team in 2008, but already his teammate Sebastien Bourdais. The German did nothing memorable in the first phase of the season, but after Monte Carlo there was progress. Star moment came on the "Monza" where Vettel won first place. Moreover, he was able to take more points in eight races and finished with 35 points in his personal asset. Bourdais, in turn, did not fare so well. But he noted four points to help his team. Vettel now leads Red Bull and his place of Sebastien Buemi.
Everyone knew it would not be easy Toro Rosso to repeat the phenomenal success of 2008 especially after Vettel went into the big brother Red Bull. Sébastien Buemi was attracted to the team and Bourdais had to wait until the end of February before you resign with the team from Faenza. Apparently Toro Rosso wanted to continue their successful series last year and in the first start Buemi finished seventh, while Bourdais eighth. In China Buemi took another point. For Bourdais things started to gain a bad prospect. His team lost faith in him after the German Grand Prix he was removed. In its place came the youngest Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari. The Spaniard failed to score a single point, but considering its gear debut without ever had climbed into a Formula 1 car, his poor form was justified. Although the team performed worse in 2009, Buemi and Alguersuari remain in Faenza, hoping again to raise Toro Rosso from the bottom.
In 2010 Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari again shaped the composition of the pilot Toro Rosso. The young Spaniard scored his first points in F1 with 10th place in Spain. In Monaco Buemi again scored a point after Michael Schumacher was penalized 20 seconds for his scandalous overtaking Fernando Alonso on the last turn. Federer scored in Italy, Canada, Japan and Valencia, while Alguersuari won the point again in Abu Dhabi. So the team from Faenza garnered a total of 13 points, which was not the desired result. Toro Rosso proved to be the weakest team, except the new additions on the grid. With the start of the 2011 season, Buemi and Alguersuari back together. This time, however, they must make greater efforts as novices from Lotus tightly breathing down the neck of Toro Rosso. The pace of the STR6 in pre-season testing was promising, but opportunities remain a mystery team to start the season in Australia.
The team began its second year as a separate constructor in 2011 and this time looked much more confident in their enterprise. STR6 was weak car and presented himself relatively well. Jaime Alguersuari tandem - Sébastien Buemi however was not so convincing. In the first half of the season, the team from Faenza rarely earn points mainly due to crashes of the two pilots. From the middle of the season, however, things turned. Alguersuari and Buemi are increasingly area finished in the points, seventh place but slipped from their hands for a while, after the last race in Brazil, Sauber managed to come out ahead in the final standings. This led to changes in the team, as the biggest was the replacement of the pilot composition. Alguersuari and Buemi were replaced by youngsters Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne. Didi Mateschitz continue to impose the system Toro Rosso to a hotbed of talent of Red Bull and is unlikely to abandon this approach.
